Kanekoa’s latest album, “Songs from the Great Disruption” is being produced by Multi-Grammy™ winning producer, engineer and artist, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. Steve brought in an All-star team; The album was mixed by Multi-Grammy™ award winning engineer Charlie Kramsky (Paul McCartney, The Simpsons) and mastered by Multi-Grammy™ award winning Gavin Lurssen (Robert Plant, Foo Fighters, Elton John). The album features several Grammy™ winning and Grammy™ nominated musicians and features such highlights as Vince Esquire and Jake Shimabukuro trading lead ukulele on Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California,” and a moving cover of Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett’s “Aloha Ka Leo O Kahi Manu” with Amy Hanaiali’i and Eric Gilliom on background vocals, George Kahumoku Jr. on slack key guitar and Geri Valdriz on lap steel. Other collaborations on the album include a latin cumbia, “Don’t Let Go”, with Hawaii legend John Cruz on vocals and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) adding his baritone sax, and a poppy, bluesy jam called “Morning Sun” with our good friend G. Love playing harmonica and trading vocals with Kaulana. Songs from the Great Disruption honors 25 years of Kanekoa redefining the potential of the most popular instrument in the world, the ukulele.
